How it worksThe EARFCN formula

EARFCN (E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number) is the integer that identifies an LTE carrier's centre frequency on a 100 kHz raster. Each band has a low-edge frequency and an EARFCN offset from 3GPP TS 36.101:

Downlink:  FDL = F_DL_low + 0.1 × (NDLN_Offs-DL)
Uplink:    FUL = F_UL_low + 0.1 × (NULN_Offs-UL)

Reverse:  NDL = N_Offs-DL + 10 × (FDL − F_DL_low)

For TDD bands the uplink and downlink share the same EARFCN range. The calculator above applies the correct per-band parameters automatically.

What is EARFCN?
EARFCN (E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number) is the integer that identifies an LTE carrier's centre frequency. Each EARFCN maps to a specific downlink or uplink frequency within a defined E-UTRA band, per 3GPP TS 36.101.
How do you convert EARFCN to frequency?
Downlink: F_DL = F_DL_low + 0.1 × (N_DL − N_Offs-DL), using the band's low-edge frequency and offset. The uplink uses the uplink parameters. The channel raster is 100 kHz.
How do you convert frequency to EARFCN?
Rearrange: N_DL = N_Offs-DL + 10 × (F_DL − F_DL_low). Find the band whose range contains the frequency, then apply its offset and low edge.
What is the difference between EARFCN and NR-ARFCN?
EARFCN is the LTE channel number (100 kHz raster); NR-ARFCN is the 5G New Radio equivalent on a global frequency raster with finer granularity. For 5G, use the NR-ARFCN calculator.
